DH World Cup season begins…

The DH world cup season has officially started with Round 1 at Lenzerheide in Switzerland.

With a packed field and new race schedule (which now includes a quali run, a new semi final run followed by a final run just a couple of hours later) it was set to be an interesting and exciting weekend.

There were some small track changes which were open to different thoughts and opinions; leave the tracks unchanged with the same iconic sections each year or change them up to test the riders and make it more interesting for spectators?

There were also some riders returning after injury or after choosing to take time out, most notably Rachel Atherton returning to take the win after having her daughter.

Of course, the season may have only just started for people watching the ‘show’ but for the riders and everyone who supports them it started many months ago with physical and mental prep, testing, injury recovery, new bikes, new teams and a new schedule to get used to.

For us, it was awesome to see lots of the riders we support get between the tapes for the first big race of the year - and to see how all of that prep really worked against the clock.

It was an incredible weekend with some brilliant racing; the different approach each rider took was really interesting to watch. You should definitely take a look.

After the event, Olly Morris joined Neko Mullaly and Chris Hall at the Downtime Podcast for the first post race session of the season. If you want to hear their thoughts about the race, the track, the new format and on how the best riders in the world performed, you can listen to it here.

“The racing was wild and I’m joined by Neko Mulally and Olly Morris to find out all about what went on. How was the track, what was it like for the riders dealing with the new format, how incredible is the sport right now and plenty more. So sit back, hit play and listen to this Lenzerheide post-race show with Neko Mulally and Olly Morris.” Chris - Downtime Podcast
